There was this idea I was toying with all morning: “Why do i spend so much time looking online and not accomplishing anything?”
Ironically, when scrolling through my facebook feed I stumbled over this:
Thank you Internet Universe. I spend many minutes, that accumulate to hours and even days looking at my (anti) social networking feed, hoping to be inspired, hoping to interact or connect with life here on this planet. What I receive, 3 minute articles about how to change my life, text messages or chats that go minutes in between answers that are greatly undefined, messages of opinion that lack positive action, posts of documentation of everyday mediocre moments.
I can concentrate on all that is wrong out there about the internet and the lasting effects on human social behaviour, or… I can give the solution.
Leave it behind. All the successful people I know have left it behind. They go out and they talk to people, they ask questions and they do things. There are basic amounts to the internet that we need to do our jobs, but our simulated life on here is just that, simulated.
It is not easy for everyone to quit an addiction cold turkey, so set small goals. Turn your notifications to silent, delegate time to looking at the phone or social networking and email to only 2-3 times a day. Gradually remove yourself from posting everything from your food that you are eating, to your emotions at the time you are feeling them, pictures of your friends and family and just enjoy the moment you have with them.
How many times have you gone through all your posts and images you have taken in the last 5 years to relive that moment? I can honestly say I have done so only 3 times and it reminds me to get off my ass and go do more cool stuff.
Good luck! I am going to put my words into action here.
